Shadowy Merchant

Shadow Merchant

Comerciante Sombrio
The Shadow Merchant, leaning against the Poring Roulette
Zeny + Abismalita
The Poring Roulette's underground market

The Shadow Merchant resells, for zeny and Abyssalite, prizes that came out of the Poring Roulette. It's the path for those who'd rather farm than depend on luck: what's a raffle on the roulette is a purchase with him.

He's found in Prontera, three steps from the Roulette: /navi prontera 62/72. He's not the same NPC as the Smuggler, who sells consumables for zeny at another spot in the city.

The Stall

His stall is small and changes its face every day. It's never the same thing twice, and nothing stays around waiting for you to come back.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The stock is swapped once a day, with just a few pieces at a time.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The stock of each piece is small, sometimes just a single unit.
  • ๐Ÿ”น Each piece, once per customer. Once you buy that item, you can't buy it again, not even on another character.
  • ๐Ÿ”น When a piece runs out, it disappears from the stall and comes back in two or three days. Ask him and he'll tell you how much longer.
  • ๐Ÿ”น If everything gets bought up, he packs up his things and vanishes from Prontera until the next restock.

The Prices

Zeny
Never the same twice

The smuggler changes his prices throughout the day, within a range of his own for each piece. He says it depends on the supplier's mood. It's worth checking the stall more than once: the same item rarely costs the same in the morning and at night.

  • ๐Ÿ”น Every piece is paid for in zeny and Abyssalite, always both together.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The Abyssalite part is the bigger slice of the cost. That's what makes the stall reachable by farming, not by hoarding zeny.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The Compulsion Discount skill works here, and cuts down the zeny part just like at any shop.
  • ๐Ÿ”น Whoever gets there first gets the best deal: as a piece keeps selling, what's left gets more expensive.

The Trade

Anel โ†’ Anel
Not always available

Every now and then he'll go for a piece for piece trade: you hand over an item from the collection and take another, more valuable one, paying the difference in zeny and Abyssalite. It's a single unit, and whoever gets there first takes it. If someone's already grabbed it, he'll tell you what it was.

  • ๐Ÿ”น The trade shows up on some days, not every day. You can't request it ahead of time.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The item you hand over needs to be in your inventory, and it leaves it the moment of the trade.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The difference is always in your favor value-wise: you move up a tier, never down.

The Collection

His stall today is only rings, all of them from the Ghostring's Royale Rings in the Poring Roulette. The hats, the mantle, the boots and the bow that used to pass through here left the collection: now they're bought with Star, at the Divinity of the Stars. The Abyssalite range below is the one that usually shows up; the exact value on a given day depends on the price he's asking at that moment.

  • ๐Ÿ”น An item only enters the stall after leaving the Roulette or having already passed through it.
  • ๐Ÿ”น The amount he gets per week is limited. He won't restock at will, no matter how much you ask.

House Rules

The four rules he recites himself, if you ask:
  1. One piece per customer, no exceptions. Once you've taken yours, that's it. No use coming back with a different face, a different name, or a different pair of boots.
  2. First come, better price. As pieces sell, whatever's left gets pricier.
  3. What runs out, disappears. It comes back in a few days, and rarely at the same price.
  4. Payment in zeny and Abyssalite. And a merchant's smooth talk counts too.
He'll also trade piece for piece every now and then, but he doesn't tell that to just anyone.
