Event ended
The Card Duel event ended on August 20, 2026. The Duel Archivist stays in Prontera until September 3 for anyone who still has floppy disks saved up. The Winged Hat and the Duelist's Visor became costume-only, with no bonuses at all, and the visor is now permanent. The potions and elixirs still have the same effect.
The Duelist, in Prontera
Card Duel
Duelist Event
A mysterious Duelist shows up in Prontera and challenges adventurers to a card duel. You build a deck, summon monsters from Rune-Midgard, and cast spells and traps to bring the opponent's life points to zero. Win, and you take home floppy disks to trade for rewards.
The duel is a card minigame in the style of monster-dueling card games, exclusive to ReClassic. You don't need anything special to play: the Duelist himself hands you the Duel Disc and the cards on the spot.
When and where it happens
The Duelist arrives at the
Prontera plaza in short windows throughout the day. A server-wide announcement goes out
10 minutes before each window.
- The event starts every 3 hours and each window lasts 30 minutes.
- While the window is open, talk to the Duelist at Prontera (76, 63) to join.
- The first duel happens in the plaza arena (open for everyone to watch). If it's taken, your duel opens in a private arena, and if all of them fill up you join a queue and get called as soon as one opens up.
| Start time | Ends | Advance notice |
|---|
| 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00 | 30 minutes later (e.g. 00:30) | 10 minutes before
|
How a duel works
Each duelist starts with
4000 life points (LP) and a
hand of 5 cards. The Duelist hands you the
Duel Disc (use the item to reopen the duel menu whenever you want) and the cards in your deck. Players alternate turns until someone brings the other's LP down to zero.

Turn phases
- Start of turn: draw 1 card (on the first turn of whoever goes first, there's no draw and no attack).
- Main Phase: summon 1 monster and use spells/traps.
- Battle Phase: attack with your monsters.
- Main Phase 2: use more cards after attacking.
- End of turn: pass the turn.
Summoning monsters and tribute
You summon
1 monster per turn, in one of the 3 zones on your side. Stronger monsters require
tribute: sacrificing your own monsters that are already on the field.
| Monster level | Tribute required |
|---|
| Level 1 to 4 | Summons directly (no tribute) |
| Level 5 to 6 | 1 tribute |
| Level 7 or higher | 2 tributes
|
Some monsters have an effect when summoned or destroyed, and the effect triggers even when they're used as tribute.
Positions: Attack and Defense
- Attack: the monster stays visible (shows its ATK) and can attack.
- Face-down Defense: it goes in as a shadow ("Unknown Monster"), only you know which card it is. It can't attack, but the opponent finds out what it is by attacking it.
- Face-up Defense: shows its DEF and works as a wall. It can't attack.
You can
change a monster's position once per turn (except on the turn it was summoned). Flipping a card from Defense to Attack reveals the monster.
Combat
Damage compares the cards' values. What happens when a monster attacks:
| Situation | Result |
|---|
| Direct attack (opponent has no monsters) | The full ATK becomes damage to the opponent's LP. |
| Against a monster in Attack | Whichever has higher ATK destroys the other, and the ATK difference becomes damage to the LP of whoever lost the monster. Equal ATK: both are destroyed, no damage. |
| Against a monster in Defense | If ATK is higher than DEF, the defender is destroyed with no damage to LP. If ATK is lower than DEF, the attacker takes the difference (DEF minus ATK) to their own LP. If they're equal, neither is destroyed.
|
Destroyed monsters go to the owner's
graveyard. The
Resurrection spell (Priest deck) brings back a monster from your own graveyard.
The three decks
When you join, you pick a duelist class. Your deck is always made up of the
monsters (shared by everyone) plus the
Spells and Traps of your class.
| Deck | Style |
|---|
| Knight | Protection and retaliation: boosts ATK and DEF, blocks and reflects attacks. |
| Wizard | Offensive magic power: area damage, LP burn and mass destruction. This is the class the Duelist himself uses. |
| Priest | Healing and support: recovers LP, revives monsters and raises holy barriers.

| Difficulty | How the Duelist plays |
|---|
| Easy | Only summons weak monsters, without tribute. Doesn't use spells or traps. |
| Medium | Stronger monsters (up to 1 tribute) and starts using spells (destroying your strongest monster or burning your LP). |
| Hard | The most powerful monsters (including Lord of the Dead and Ifrit), spells often, and it even sets traps. The deck also tends to draw the strongest monsters.

Rewards
Exchange currency
The Floppy Disks (Confidential and Top Secret) aren't the final prize: they're the currency you earn by beating the Duelist and spend at the Duel Archivist's shop.

|---|
| Easy | 2 | 5 |
| Medium | 3 | 7 |
