The MageMages use their skills as their main source of damage. These attacks are magical in nature and only take the target's Magic Defense into account, not Physical Defense. In addition, all of the Mage's spells are elemental. This means using each spell correctly is extremely important.
General class reference guide. ReClassic applies its own rebalance to several skills, so some builds and skills may differ from classic Ragnarok.
Standard Builds
The classic Mage build is focused on INT (magic power and SP).

Becoming a Mage
Requirements: be a Novice, have learned all 9 Basic Skills, and have spent all your skill points.
The Mage Guild is in Geffen (`geffen_in`). This is the most complicated 1st class quest: you have to mix a chemical solution following a recipe.
Note: the Instructor also offers to change your class on the spot, no test needed. But you lose the Mage's Glove (INT +5 and +10% EXP up to level 60).
Step
What to do
1
Talk to the Instructor (geffen_in,164,124) and choose Take the test. She gives you a Empty Test Tube and randomly picks which of the 4 recipes you have to prepare.
2
Read the Bookshelf (geffen_in,177,112): it shows the recipe you were assigned (ingredients, solvent, and code).
3
Gather the ingredients and the solvent (see below where to buy them).
4
Use the Mixing Machine (geffen_in,164,112): enter the ingredients, the solvent, and the magic powder code. If you get it all right, you get the correct tube; if you get it wrong, you get a useless tube and have to redo it.
The catalyst is provided by the Mixing Machine itself: you don't need to buy the gem.
If you get the mix wrong, you get a useless tube. Just throw it away and try again: there's no penalty.
With the free class level given by the Mage Guild Manager, you can defeat the monsters on this map with ease. Prioritize getting Firewall, since it will be your bread and butter for leveling. Don't max your skills too early if you plan to level against monsters with different elemental properties. Using a level 3 to 5 bolt is better than a level 10 bolt skill with a slow cast time.
Morroc Field / Byalan
Easy
Once you have an elemental spell, you can already start leveling here. Use fire magic in Morroc Field and wind magic in Byalan. Get Lightening Bolt and Thunder storm if you plan to hunt in Byalan. A well-placed Firewall is the secret to leveling fast. You can practice positioning Firewall while hunting Mukas and Hodes.
Orc Dungeon/Field
Medium
As you level up, the monsters become easier to hunt. Everything in this area is weak to fire. Block the orcs with Firewall and kill them with Firebolt. You can also look for a party to bring you along to the orc dungeon. Don't stay far from the front line, stay next to them to draw in the mobs that spawn near you. Bring potions in case of emergency. Head to floor 2 of the orc dungeon once you get stronger.
Yuno Field / Mjolnir Field
Medium to Hard
This is a famous spot for ranged classes, since the Carnivorous Plants don't move. With the Mage's cast range, you won't have trouble leveling here. You can hunt Argiopes for Boots[1] while gaining levels. By this point, you should already be able to position Firewall correctly. Bring potions, since most monsters here are aggressive. The Carnivorous Plants are easy prey, since they don't move. Just keep your distance to stay safe. Watch out for Punk, Harpy and Deviling. They will kill you.
Clock Tower
Medium to Hard
If you're looking for a monster that gives more EXP than the Carnivorous Plant, you can try hunting Clocks on floor 2 of the Clock Tower, located in Aldebaran. The technique here is to pull the Clock to a tight spot, like a staircase, and then cast Firewall. Watch out for aggressive monsters.
