The Sage
The Sage
The Sages are known as souped-up mages. They may not have the Wizards' magic power, but they guarantee the target's elimination. How? They have free casting, which lets them move or attack while casting a spell, an elemental endow, a skill that dispels the enemy's blessings, and lots of bolt damage. General class reference guide. ReClassic applies its own rebalance to several skills, so some builds and skills may differ from classic Ragnarok.

Becoming a Sage

Requirements: be a Mage, have at least job level 40, and have spent all your skill points. The Sage quest is a school: the Schweicherbil Magic Academy, in Yuno. You enroll, take a written test, a practical exam, attend a lecture with a randomly assigned professor, and hand in a thesis to the dean. Note: the dean, Kayron, also offers to turn you into a Sage right away for 100,000z, no test. But you lose the rewards: the 100,000z bonus and the Platinum Skills.
StepImageWhat to do
1sabio-yuno.png sabio-staf.pngThe Academy is in Yuno. Talk to the dean, Kayron (yuno_in02,38,61), to apply.
2sabio-item.pngEnrollment. Talk to Metheus Sylphe (yuno_in03,154,35). Pay 70,000z or hand over 1006.png Old Magic Book + 1007.png Necklace of Wisdom. If you have neither the zeny nor the items, he gives you an item set to collect (table below).
3Written test. Talk to Professor Claytos Verdo (yuno_in03,105,177): 20 questions × 5 points. You need 80 points (you can miss up to 4). Answer key below.
4Practical exam. Talk to Professor Hermes Tris (yuno_in03,169,180). He sends you to the arena (`job_sage`). Details below.
5Lecture. Hermes randomly picks 1 of 3 professors for you to study with. Each one has their own material and their own lecture (below).
6When you finish the lecture, the professor hands you the thesis (1550.png Book [3]). Bring it to the dean, Kayron, and he turns you into a Sage.

Step 2: enrollment item sets

Only applies if you don't pay the 70,000z or hand over the Grimoire + Necklace. He randomly picks one of these:

Step 3: written test answer key (Claytos Verdo)

Step 5: the lectures (randomly assigned professor)

Hermes randomly picks one of the 3 professors. Each one has a different lecture and different materials:

Professor Saphien Layless: History (Classroom)

`yuno_in03,62,176`. Bring 1 Yggdrasil item (607.png Yggdrasil Berry, 608.png Yggdrasil Seed, or 610.png Yggdrasil Leaf). Note: this is the only professor with a real test, any mistake fails you and you have to redo the lecture. The correct answers:

MapLocationDifficultyNotes
sabio-geo.png sabio-mjolnir.pngGeographers / ArgiopesEasy to MediumGet your first skill points leveling up on this map. Target the Geographers with Firebolt. Keep your distance so you don't get hit. Stay away from Punk, Harpy, and Deviling. Use Firewall against the Argiopes and finish with Firebolt.
sabio-ayothaya.pngAyothayaEasyIf you're taking it easy and don't want to spend on potions, you can start in Ayothaya for a relaxed job EXP grind.
sabio-byalan.pngByalanEasy to MediumOnce you have your offensive skills, you can hunt in Byalan and move down to the deeper levels as you grow stronger.
sabio-highorc.pngGrand OrcsMediumAt an intermediate level, you can start hunting Grand Orcs. Grand Orcs are weak against the water element.
sabio-pyramid.png sabio-ctower3.pngPyramids / Clock TowerMedium to HardMinorous are weak against the ice element. Watch out for their Hammerfall skill. You can also hunt Alarms if you're well equipped.
sabio-magma1.pngMagma DungeonMedium to HardUse fire armor (Pasana Card). Use an ice weapon for maximum damage.
sabio-gh.pngGlast HeimMedium to HardOnce you're reaching a high level, you can go to GH. This map offers lots of leveling spots for different classes. As a Sage, make sure you kill enemies fast enough, since the monsters here deal high damage, can mob you, and spawn quickly.
sabio-turdun.pngTurtle DungeonMedium to HardAnother famous spot for high levels is the Turtle Dungeon. Monster density here is high, so you don't need to worry about running out of monsters to kill. Make sure you can kill the mobs faster than they spawn. Head to the next floors for more EXP and monsters.
sabio-sphinx.pngSphinxMedium to HardAnubis is your main target here. The EXP you get from a single Anubis is 28,000 base EXP and 22,000 job EXP. That EXP is incredibly high, so don't waste it. Wear armor with Bathory/Evil Druid to nullify the dark-element Soul Strike. You can also enter the central portal if you want to hunt Pasanas.
